Wow…..have you heard?
You are now looking at an award-winning company. Yep, One Day Web won Best New Business at the EC National Awards on Friday 8th December 2017 and we are absolutely bursting with pride.
But does it really mean anything? What would winning an industry award mean to you? What impact does it have on your business? Do you think it is relevant?
I think most of us can say we don’t do our jobs solely for recognition, however, getting a pat on the back for our efforts can be extremely motivating for the individuals and/or the team. We do what we do because it’s our passion.
So, let’s look at the definition: noun – a prize or other mark of recognition given in honour of an achievement… but it is so much more:
Strengthening your credibility
If the leaders of your industry stand up and say: here’s to your business and all that you do. Above all others we recognise you as leaders in your field, this can only have a positive impact on your business. It’s a positive endorsement that reinforces your message and makes you stand out as a gold star in a clear night sky… (It’s late, I couldn’t think of a better analogy.) Just because you know you are a market leader doesn’t mean everyone else does, so for industry leaders to stand up behind you and nod in agreement is a fantastic achievement.
Recognition in the industry
Winning an award gives you recognition across audiences that are not necessarily in your current contact sphere. After all, for you to even be considered you must be visible but to win, you must be identified as a business that is doing that little bit more, going that little extra mile, pushing that little bit harder, shouting a little bit louder to be heard and recognised over and above everything else. Your efforts have been noted.
Sometimes when we are so consumed in the day to day hustle and bustle of our business, when some days are a little tough, we can doubt ourselves. Winning an award is a sure way to just give you that confirmation that you are doing great. You’re on the right track and people “get it”. When your industry peers start to believe in what you do it is a massive confidence boost.
Team recognition and morale boost
If you have a team around you, it can really highlight the strength that you have working together to achieve this great acknowledgement. Just as it is for the business owners, a strong team will thrive with recognition and appreciation. To receive that from people outside of the business too…well, it just identifies how you all work well together and have united for a common goal; and its paid off. So, don’t forget to share the glory with them too. Keep the reward visible and celebrate the achievement together, as a team.
Winning an award can have an almost immediate effect on your business. Right from the moment, we became finalists, it gave us something to talk about. It sparked intrigue and increased our visibility on numerous platform. Since winning the award on Friday we have had a flow of enquiries, but it also started many conversations across multiple social media sites giving us the opportunity to yet again increase our visibility.
We’ve been recognised, we’ve had our pat on the back, we have boosted morale and motivated the team, we have increased our visibility but there is one thing missing and that’s the experience. Getting out of the office and attending such events is a fantastic opportunity to have fun, relax and mix with other industry leaders. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and learn from others whilst freeing your mind of the day to day tasks. Plus, you get to take home something shiny. So why not enter some awards for your business in 2018.
